At the 10 km road race in Valencia, the European 10,000 m champion finished in 2nd place on the track in 26:54 minutes, improving the Swiss record he held together with Julien Wanders by a whopping 19 seconds. Victory went to the Swede Andreas Almgren, who ran a European record of 26:53 thanks to a strong final spurt.
