On Friday, Kloten's top scorer Miro Aaltonen was provisionally suspended for a doping offense. Now the forward admits to misconduct to the Finnish news agency STT.
Aaltonen is said to have spoken out about his doping case late on Friday evening. He is quoted by SST as saying: "During the break before Christmas 2024, I was in a nightclub and apparently consumed a substance for entertainment purposes that does not enhance performance but is banned in sport."
It is still unclear what substance the Olympic champion from Finland ingested. Neither EHC Kloten nor Swiss Sport Integrity, which has provisionally suspended the 31-year-old indefinitely due to a potential violation of the anti-doping rules, have yet commented on the case in detail.
Aaltonen, who has signed a two-year contract with SC Bern starting next season, went on to say that it was a stupid mistake, according to the SST. "I will get help and take the consequences for my actions. As soon as I am allowed to, I would like to return to my profession. I sincerely apologize for what I did to my loved ones and to EHC Kloten, the fans and teammates," Aaltonen is quoted as saying.
