National League Kloten can do it without Aaltonen

Kloten shows great morale, Zug remains the team of the hour and Bern develops an overtime trauma. These are the facts about the six National League games on Saturday.

Kloten's 3:2 victory against Biel cannot be rated highly enough. On the one hand, the shock came on Friday with the positive doping test of Finland's Miro Aaltonen. He is not only Kloten's top scorer, but the top scorer in the entire league. Secondly, without Aaltonen, whose contract has since been terminated, the team from the Zurich Unterland only had four foreigners on the ice. And finally, the visitors from Biel took the lead after just 16 seconds through Fabio Hofer in the important six-point game. But the Kloten team showed great morale: they took a 3:1 lead by the 22nd minute - thanks in part to captain Steve Kellenberger's first goal of the season - and finally managed to hold on for a 3:2 win. Kloten thus stubbornly and surprisingly remain in the top 6.

Wallmark's shot into the heart of Bern

It's a déjà vu of the unpleasant kind for the Bernese. 72 seconds had been played in the Fribourg Arena when the congenial Swedish duo of Lucas Wallmark-Marcus Sörensen secured Gottéron the extra point. For the third time in a row, the Bernese lost a Zähringen derby in overtime, twice in extra time and once in a penalty shootout. Gottéron thus also scored in the ninth game under new coach Lars Leuenberger, and they also won the Spengler Cup together. Bern, on the other hand, lost their fourth game in a row, but at least gained another point - thanks to Victor Ejdsell's 1:1 in the 52nd minute.

Servette a generous guest at Rappi's anniversary

The struggling Genève-Servette proved to be a generous guest at SC Rapperswil-Jona's 80th anniversary game. It brought gifts in the form of defensive shortcomings, indiscipline and a lack of commitment. As a result, the Lakers from Lake Zurich took a decisive 4:0 lead after just 20 minutes - and two powerplay goals. After that, Geneva also played along a little, but it was no longer exciting at 7:3. The change of coach at Rapperswil-Jona - eight wins from the last ten games - had a much greater impact than the one at Servette. They had previously lost nine in a row against Geneva.

Birthday boy Malgin with the winning goal

For Lugano, the trees are not growing into the sky even with new coach Uwe Krupp. After Friday's win against Davos, they suffered a 4-1 defeat against the ZSC Lions in Zurich. The ultimately decisive 2:1 goal was scored by Denis Malgin in the 37th minute and on his 27th birthday. The Swiss champions, who once again lead the league in points lost, celebrated two wins in a row for the first time with Marco Bayer at the helm.

Work victory for the in-form Zug team

The conditions in the duel between Zug and the SCL Tigers could hardly have been much clearer: The in-form central Swiss are the team of the moment, but struggled against the reeling Langnau team. It was not until the 57th minute that Andreas Wingerli scored the goal to make it 3:2 and thus the sixth EVZ victory in a row. The SCL Tigers, on the other hand, are on a six-game losing streak - without a single point and with only seven plus goals.

Bottom team gets the leaders back on track

Lausanne HC ended its brief period of weakness with two defeats after eight wins in a row against Ajoie with a 3-0 victory. Damien Riat distinguished himself as a two-goal scorer, goalie Kevin Pasche fended off 18 shots for his eighth shutout of the season. The home victory of the leaders against the bottom team is not as logical as it looks at first glance: Ajoie had won the last two duels between the two.
