The Nashville Predators' chances of making the NHL playoffs with their captain Roman Josi continue to dwindle. They lost 1:4 at home to the Washington Capitals on Sunday night.

After two periods, the world still looked reasonably okay in Nashville. Thanks in part to Roman Josi's assist to make it 1:1, the Predators kept the game even. In the final period, however, Washington pulled away - despite being visually dominated by Nashville with 33:16 shots.

For Nashville, who started the season with high ambitions but have been disappointing across the board so far, the play-off train will soon have left the station. Although the regular season in North America still has a long way to go, the Predators are stuck in third-last place in the Western Conference after their 29th defeat in 42 games. They are already fifteen points behind the final playoff spot.

This is occupied by Pius Suter's Vancouver Canucks. Without a goal from the Zurich forward, the Canucks stopped a negative streak of four consecutive defeats. The Canucks won 3:0 in Toronto.

It was also a quiet evening for the Swiss, but for the most part a successful one. The New Jersey Devils with captain Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler won 3:2 at home after overtime against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nino Niederreiter's Winnipeg Jets 3:0 against Colorado. Kevin Fiala lost 2-1 in Calgary with the Los Angeles Kings, who are currently unable to play any home games due to the bushfires.

They are all on course for the play-offs with their teams.
