Kevin Magnussen will have to miss the start of the Formula 1 weekend in São Paulo. The Dane, who is suffering from nausea, will be replaced by substitute driver Oliver Bearman at Team Haas.
The 19-year-old Briton Bearman will contest both practice and qualifying for Saturday's sprint on Friday. Even if Magnussen is fit, he will not be allowed to take part in the sprint race - according to the regulations. A return for qualifying on Saturday and the Brazilian Grand Prix the following day is open. Haas announced that it would provide information on further developments in due course.
Bearman has already stood in twice this season as a substitute driver. At the beginning of March in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the talented Englishman stood in for Carlos Sainz (appendix operation) at Ferrari and impressed with 7th place. Four weeks ago in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he stood in for Magnussen, who was suspended at the time, at Haas and again finished tenth in the points.
Bearman will become a regular driver for the American team in 2025, while Magnussen has not been offered a new contract.
