Dommaraju Gukesh makes up for his false start at the World Chess Championship in Singapore against the Chinese Ding Liren.

The 18-year-old Indian won the third duel with the white pieces on Wednesday. The score is now 1.5:1.5 before the first rest day.

Considered a prodigy, Gukesh will face 32-year-old defending champion Ding as the youngest challenger in the 138-year history of the World Chess Championships and is considered the favorite. Magnus Carlsen, the undisputed world champion from 2013 to 2023, had decided not to take part for the second time in a row.

The World Chess Championship in Singapore is scheduled for 14 games. The winner of a game receives one point; in the event of a draw, both players receive half a point. The first player to collect 7.5 points is the world chess champion and receives the lion's share of the prize money of 2.5 million dollars. If there is a draw after 14 games, a play-off in rapid chess decides the winner.
