Cedric Gugler is still among the leaders after three rounds at the Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana. The 24-year-old from Basel is in an excellent 5th place before the final day.

Only a few players finished the third round under par, as the wind did not play along on the Valais high plateau on Saturday.

Gugler, who was in 7th place after the first day and tenth after two rounds, made up five positions with a round of 71 in difficult conditions. With five strokes under par, he is six strokes behind the English leader Matt Wallace. However, the difference to second place, occupied by Spaniard Alfredo Garcia-Heredia, is just two strokes.

"I remained patient," said Gugler in an interview with SRF, "of course it's nice that so many people were there, that always motivates me." The Basel native, who was one of four Swiss players to make the cut, missed an even better starting position with bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes.

Matt Wallace remains at the top of the leaderboard after three days. However, the Englishman lost some of his lead after a difficult round of 73 strokes (three over par). With rain forecast for Sunday, the final ranking could be shaken up again.
