  • Freuler thanks the Swiss fans

"The Swiss fans are incredible. We're not surprised, but other nations are very surprised by the Swiss fans and the atmosphere they create. A very big thank you," said Freuler with a laugh, making it clear that this is not a matter of course: "If you look at the flights, it's not cheap to come to Berlin."

  • Freuler: "The goal will help Ndoye"

"I didn't know Dan before I came to Bologna. He's a super lad," says Freuler when asked about Bologna team-mate Dan Ndoye. "I'm happy that he finally scored against Germany. That's a load off his mind. The goal will help him. Dan has a very good career ahead of him."

  • Freuler on the last clash with Italy at Euro 2021

"We looked at what we did wrong back then when we lost 3-0. But Italy have changed again since then. That was three years ago," says Freuler.

  • Freuler on his role

"I know my qualities and I know what qualities I can give the team and what is best for the team," says Freuler. "I'm also not afraid to make a few extra meters."

  • Does the preparation change because it's a knockout game?

"We have a whole week to prepare. It's important that we have good sessions," says Freuler. For him, the match against Italy is one of the top three highlights of his career so far: "The round of 16 is the round of 16 - but it's nice to play against Italy," says Freuler. Depending on how the game turns out, that could still change.

  • What does Freuler say about the tournament tree?

"We tried to play our football and didn't take it into consideration. We'll then see whether the tournament tree is positive for us."

  • "Chances like this won't come around that often"

"You think about the fact that you're getting older and chances like that might not come around so often," said Freuler. "If you still have the images against France in your head - of course you want to repeat that."

  • Freuler: "I think it's a shame for Calafiori"

For Freuler, who has played in Italy for years, the round of 16 will be special. He sees Italy as the favorites - even though Ricardo Calafiori, Freuler's teammate at Bologna, will be missing due to a yellow card suspension. "I think it's a shame for him in particular," says Freuler. He would have liked to play against him.

  • Freuler expects a difficult game

"Italy are a good opponent, they had a difficult group and got through. It will be a difficult opponent," says Freuler, looking ahead to the round of 16 on Saturday.
