The New Jersey Devils are not getting back on track in the NHL after the short Christmas break. On Sunday night, they suffered their fourth defeat in a row.
The Devils lost 2:3 at the San Jose Sharks, with Jonas Siegenthaler the unfortunate hero. The Zurich native lost the puck in his defensive zone in the final minute, allowing the home team to score the winning goal with 25 seconds left in regulation time. The Devils had previously managed to come back from a deficit twice. Nico Hischier added his name to the list of scorers. The Valais captain scored the 1:1 in the 25th minute, his 19th goal of the season.
Nino Niederreiter also got on the scoresheet. The Grisons native scored an assist in the Winnipeg Jets' 4-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings - his third in the last three games, all of which were losses.
Kevin Fiala and Roman Josi remained scoreless but victorious. Fiala managed his ninth home win in a row with the Los Angeles Kings against Tampa Bay (2:1), Josi and the Nashville Predators won 4:1 at the Calgary Flames and celebrated their second away win in 24 hours.
Lian Bichsel, who was banished to the AHL, will have to wait for his next NHL outing. His Dallas Stars won 3:2 after overtime against Utah without him.
