Manchester City draw 1-1 against Everton on Boxing Day, with Erling Haaland denied by Jordan Pickford from the penalty spot in the second half.

Manchester City simply cannot find a way out of their sporting crisis. In their home game against Everton FC on Boxing Day, the English champions were unable to get past 1:1 (1:1). Bernardo Silva (14th minute) had given the hosts an early lead. However, Iliman Ndiaye (36') equalized before the break after a renewed slump in performance. Erling Haaland then missed the best chance for a City victory when he missed a penalty (53').

As a result, coach Pep Guardiola's side have won just one of their last 13 competitive matches. The gap to the Champions League places in the table could widen further.

Worst crisis under Guardiola

Despite the worst crisis during Guardiola's time as City coach, things almost got off to the perfect start for the hosts. Ex-Leipzig native Josko Gvardiol could have put City ahead in the 3rd minute, but his header hit the post. A good ten minutes later, Silva luckily slid the ball into the net - but this goal did not give City much confidence.

City's play was characterized by uncertainty and mistakes, one of which Everton finally took advantage of. Manuel Akanji missed the ball and Ndiaye equalized with a superb drop-kick. Haaland then failed to score from a penalty kick with a strong save from Jordan Pickford.
