No winner in the duel between Swiss defenders Fabian Schär and Manuel Akanji: The match between Newcastle United and Manchester City ended 1-1. Josko Gvardiol put the visitors ahead in the first half, Anthony Gordon equalized in the 58th minute. The 23-year-old Englishman converted the penalty he himself had taken. Schär, who retired from the national team after the European Championships, played through, as did Akanji, who last played as the Swiss captain.
It was the second consecutive draw for champions City after four wins in the opening game. The previous week, the Citizens drew 2-2 with Arsenal. It was the first defeat of the season for the team of 31-year-old coach Fabian Hürzeler, who holds a Swiss as well as a German passport.
Brentford's fast starters struck again. For the third time in a row, the team from west London scored a goal in the first minute of the game - a first in the Premier League. However, Brentford failed to win any of these three games. After defeats against Manchester City (1-2) and Tottenham (1-3), the result was a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham.
