Third win of the season Servette defeats Yverdon even with one man less

Servette start the Super League with three wins for the second time. Despite one or two lapses in concentration, the Geneva side won 3-2 at home against Yverdon.

In the third game under coach Thomas Häberli, Servette made life a little difficult for themselves. The Grenats dominated the first few minutes against Yverdon with great confidence and took a seemingly decisive 2-0 lead halfway through the first half through Dereck Kutesa (12') and an own goal by their former captain Anthony Sauthier (22').

Then the Cup winners, who had started the season so successfully, began to get a little sloppy. Good chances went unused up front, and defenders Keigo Tsunemoto and Steve Rouiller made serious mistakes in the fight against the ball before the break. Tsunemoto caused the penalty with a clumsy intervention, which Boris Cespedes converted to make it 1-2, and Rouiller picked up a red card for a foul.

Geneva's mid-game slump had no impact on the distribution of the points, as Miroslav Stevanovic restored the two-goal lead 29 seconds after the break, meaning that Yverdon's second goal by William Le Pogam in the 63rd minute had no consequences.

Men of the Match: Miroslav Stevanovic

"Just like on Wednesday against YB, he scored again today against Yverdon and was once again one of Geneva's midfield assets. Also helped out well at the back when outnumbered to keep the lead over time"

Will Servette do it like 21 years ago?

Servette already have their third success in sight. Thanks to the early fifth-round match against YB, which the Geneva side won convincingly, the Cup winners already have six points to their name. After the home game against Yverdon, it could even be nine. Three wins to start the season: The last time Servette achieved this was in the 2003/04 season.
