- Borussia Dortmund suffered their next disappointment in the Bundesliga with a defeat at newly promoted Holstein Kiel.
- The 2:4 defeat at the end of the first half of the season dealt BVB another setback in the race for the international starting places. Dortmund had recently started the new year with a 2:3 defeat against champions Bayer Leverkusen.
- Now young coach Nuri Sahin is also shaky. The BVB managers are still backing him - but a turnaround is needed.
After Borussia Dortmund's 4:2 defeat at Holstein Kiel, coach Nuri Sahin showed understanding for a possible discussion about him. "Because I'm the coach, I bear all the responsibility. I can't absolve myself of responsibility," said Sahin on Sky TV. He was ashamed and spoke of a "non-performance".
Managing director Lars Ricken had previously replied to the question of whether Sahin was available: "No, he is not." Sporting director Sebastian Kehl emphasized in the ARD "Sportschau": "We are not having a coaching discussion." The players should look to their own noses.
Dortmund finished the first half of the season with 25 points and thus clearly outside the international ranks. Under predecessor Edin Terzic, BVB had reached the final of the premier class last year. "I know how football works. Football is a results-based sport, I'm measured by the results," said Sahin.
Sahin: Have the strength to turn the situation around
The 36-year-old was speechless and stunned by his team's performance in Kiel. "With us, it's always the case that you don't know what's going to come out. That takes a lot of energy," he said. There was no need to worry about him. "I'm concerned about Borussia Dortmund. The last person I'm thinking about is me." The Dortmund coach emphasized that he has the strength to turn the situation around.
He and his team already have to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday for the start of the second half of the Bundesliga season. When asked whether Sahin would be on the sidelines then, Kehl said: "Yes."
