Bottom side Valladolid without a chance Real Madrid win thanks to triple goalscorer Kylian Mbappé

Following Atlético Madrid's loss of points, Real seized the opportunity to extend their lead in the league. Responsible for this: Kylian Mbappé.

Thanks to superstar Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid have pulled away a little from local rivals Atlético in the Spanish league. The leaders recorded a 3:0 win at bottom-placed Real Valladolid. The French striker scored all three goals in the 30th and 57th minutes and from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

After initial difficulties in his first season at Real, Mbappé's league goals were 13 to 15, the first time the 26-year-old has scored a treble for the Whites.

After beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the Champions League, Atlético Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Betis Sevilla. This was the next loss of points after the surprising defeat against newly promoted CD Leganés. Real are now four points ahead of Atlético at the top.
