Atlético take advantage of a slip-up Real Madrid beat Las Palmas and take over at the top of the table

Real Madrid are only briefly shocked by the early deficit. In the end, the favorites lived up to their role - also thanks to their superstar in attack.

Real Madrid have taken the lead at the top of the Spanish league thanks in part to a brace from French football star Kylian Mbappé. The Whites defeated UD Las Palmas 4:1 (3:1) despite falling behind early on and overtook city rivals Atlético, who had been disgraced the day before at newly promoted CD Leganés (0:1). The capital club seem to be well prepared for their home game in the Champions League against RB Salzburg on Wednesday.

However, Real had to overcome an early scare. Fabio Silva put the underdogs ahead after just one minute. Then goalscorer Mbappé turned on the heat. He equalized with a penalty (18') and scored from the spot to make it 3:1 (36'). Brahim Díaz had previously given Madrid the lead (33'). A further goal from Mbappé was disallowed for offside (42').
