  • The Swiss national team will face England in the European Championship quarter-finals. For Tami, it is clear that the English are the favorites.
  • The market value of all English players is 1.47 billion francs. The Swiss have a combined market value of 273 million francs.
  • National team boss Pierluigi Tami has the utmost respect for his opponents, but at the same time is confident that the national team can also hold its own against England.

"We're happy to be playing against a big national team again," says national team boss Pierluigi Tami in the football talk show "Heimspiel bei der Nati", recalling that the English reached the final of the last European Championship. The English are the "clear favorites", but Switzerland are proud of themselves: "We have respect, but no fear."

"I'm not afraid of the idea of the game either. Because our game plan is simply much more mature than England's," says blue Sport editor-in-chief Andreas Böni. The English have no real plan so far, but they have a lot of individual quality, which is also reflected in their market value.

What is England's individual class good for?

In fact, the two teams are worlds apart in this respect. According to Transfermarkt, England's squad is worth CHF 1.47 billion, more than five times as much as that of the Swiss national team, which is valued at CHF 273 million. Tami picks up the ball with a smile and says: "Fortunately, money doesn't score goals."

How the team performed was also important: "We performed well and showed that we are a team," said the national team boss. But the individual class of England is undisputed, as was evident against Slovakia: "In the end, Bellingham and Kane made the difference." Incidentally, the two goalscorers together have pretty much the same market value as all the Swiss players put together. Sometimes money does score goals.

Nevertheless, the 62-year-old is confident that something is definitely possible against England: "What gives me confidence is Switzerland's performance." They will certainly have to do more against England, "but we have shown that we are ready," said Tami.
