Leverkusen - Stuttgart 0:0 Maximum punishment for Nati star: Fabian Rieder substituted and then substituted again

Granit Xhaka's Bayer Leverkusen opened the 9th round of the Bundesliga with a 0-0 draw against runners-up VfB Stuttgart. Fabian Rieder came on for the visitors in the 8th minute and was substituted in the 58th minute.

Bayer Leverkusen suffered a further setback in the battle for the top spot in the Bundesliga. The champions had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home to VfB Stuttgart. In front of 30,000 spectators at the Leverkusen Arena, the home side, coached by Xabi Alonso, missed a number of opportunities to secure three points. The visitors, on the other hand, produced very little in attack.

Nati star Fabian Rieder received the maximum punishment from VfB coach Sebastian Hoeness. The ex-YB player was substituted for the injured Jamie Leweling in the 8th minute and had to make way for Chris Führich in the 58th minute after a tactical change. It was VfB's 14th competitive game in a row without a win in a direct duel with Bayer.

In the table, Leverkusen (16 points) failed to close the gap on leaders FC Bayern and RB Leipzig (both 20). Stuttgart (13) occupy seventh place ahead of the remaining games this weekend.
