Pep Guardiola loses four in a row for the first time in his coaching career. Manchester City, coached by the Spaniard, lost 2-1 at Brighton in the Premier League without Manuel Akanji.

Tottenham in the League Cup, Bournemouth in the Championship and Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League were Manchester City's other defeats in the last ten days alongside Brighton. Manchester City have not been on such a losing streak since 2006. Guardiola has never lost more than three times in a row as a coach since his debut at FC Barcelona in 2008.

In Brighton, Manchester City appeared to end their losing streak without Akanji, who was on the bench for 90 minutes. The lead taken by Erling Haaland midway through the first half lasted until the 78th minute. Then João Pedro and Matt O'Riley turned things around within five minutes against an increasingly unsettled Citizens, who were sorely missing their injured director and Ballon d'Or winner Rodri.
