Manchester City's misery continued on Boxing Day. Coach Pep Guardiola's team had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Everton in the Premier League.
"Murphy's Law" (anything that can go wrong, will go wrong) currently applies to Manchester City. The Citizens should have been 3-0 up against Everton after just over half an hour, but suddenly it's 1-1! Bernardo Silva had put the home team ahead. Josko Gvardiol had previously headed the ball against the post. Silva later missed a great chance by trying a trick shot instead of going for the simple solution.
Swiss international Manuel Akanji did not look good when Everton equalized at 1-1: Akanji misjudged a cross and was unable to clear, which Iliman Ndiaye punished with a brilliant drop-kick to equalize at 1-1.
Manchester City could still have won the game after the break. Erling Haaland failed to beat Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a penalty in the 52nd minute. After the penalty, Haaland headed the ball into the net, but the Norwegian was offside. Haaland has scored just 4 goals in his last 13 games.
Of the last 13 games, the Citizens have won just once in all competitions: 3-0 in the Championship against Nottingham Forest. The other games resulted in 9 defeats and 3 draws.
