Magnin effect already fizzled out? Lugano inflicts YB's 6th defeat in 11 games and moves up to 2nd place

Young Boys suffer another setback. The defending champions lose 0:2 in Lugano.

American Joe Mansueto has been the sole owner of FC Lugano since August 13, 2021. This was the 68-year-old billionaire's first time attending a match of the South Ticino club live. And he certainly liked what he saw.

Coach Mattia Croci-Torti's team showed a strong reaction to the 2-0 defeat at Yverdon the week before. Ignacio Aliseda put the hosts ahead in the 18th minute with a low shot from the edge of the box. 15 minutes later, the Argentinian set up Hadj Mahmoud to make it 2-0, who finished freely in the middle of the penalty area.

The new FC Lugano arena is being built next to the current stadium. In contrast to YB, however, the team has hardly any construction sites. With Joël Magnin at the helm, the Bernese are still searching for the necessary consistency and were unable to improve on their 2-1 win over Lucerne in their first match under the interim coach.

The visitors, who have only won twice in the current championship, certainly had chances to improve the result, for example in the 26th minute when Lugano goalkeeper Amir Saipi made a miraculous save with his foot from Joël Monteiro's shot from a prime position. However, the victory for the South Ticino side was a fair one. Lugano are now level on points with Zurich in 3rd place, two points behind leaders Servette.
