Basel and Lausanne-Sport share the points in the duel between the Super League's currently strongest teams. Basel took a deserved lead at the break, but then Lausanne found the right approach.
FC Basel clearly dominated the game for one half. They led 1-0 after a quarter of an hour thanks to a deflected shot from Marin Soticek and did not allow a shot on Marwin Hitz's goal even without Adrian Barisic, who was suspended with a yellow card. In the second half, the visitors from Lausanne stepped up their game considerably. They were rewarded with an equalizer in the 56th minute through Teddy Okou, who scored for the second time in a row after a lengthy goal drought.
Both teams celebrated again in the final quarter of an hour, but only briefly. Alvyn Sanches' supposed 2:1 for Lausanne in the 78th minute was due to a close offside, while substitute Albian Ajeti's goal was clearly offside.
In Sanches' case, it was so close that Lausanne lodged a protest for the match to be scored due to a possibly incorrectly drawn offside line. However, this has already been rejected. The scene could not be clearly broken down on the TV images from "blue". Referee expert Adrien Jaccottet had already assessed the chance of success as very low due to the ambiguous images and the factual decision before the official verdict.
Xherdan Shaqiri, who had been on fire in recent weeks, scoring five goals and recording six assists in five games, remained inconspicuous for once. Lausanne goalkeeper Karlo Letica was not called upon to make a save from a Léo Leroy cross after half an hour.
