FC Basel win 2:1 against St. Gallen in dramatic fashion. Kevin Carlos scores for FCB for the first time in the Super League - twice. The winning goal is scored seconds before the end.

No time? blue Sport summarizes for you

  • FC Basel wins against St.Gallen with 2:1.
  • Kevin Carlos scores twice for FCB. He scores the winning goal in the 95th minute.
  • FC St.Gallen have picked up four points in their last six league games. One win, one draw. Four games were lost.

The fifth minute of stoppage time is already underway in front of a good 27,000 spectators at St. Jakob-Park. Dominik Schmid crosses again from the left. St. Gallen's Lukas Görtler complains that the ball is already out of play. Marin Soticek doesn't care, the Croatian heads against the crossbar and Kevin Carlos dusts it off to make it 2:1.

The former Yverdon striker had already scored in the first half to make it 1:1; these were the first two goals in the championship for FCB by last year's co-top scorer. The Basel side earned the win after a complicated opening phase with an improved performance and because they were more energetic than the visitors from eastern Switzerland in the final quarter of an hour.

"You have to believe in victory right to the end," said a beaming Xherdan Shaqiri on blue Sport. "We were rewarded for that." It was the second prestigious home win for Basel after the 1-0 win against YB, who moved up to 5th place at the expense of St. Gallen.

St.Gallen with one win in the last six games

FCSG, on the other hand, are going through a difficult phase, with only one point from their last three league games. Out of the last six, they have four. They started with a lot of energy, took the lead in the 7th minute after a quick counter-attack by Willem Geubbels and dominated the first half hour. After the equalizer, however, coach Enrico Maassen's team lost control and seemed to be a little less physically fit than Basel in the end.

Man of the Match

Kevin Carlos: Kevin Carlos' first league goals for Basel were quite something. His brace leads to FCB deciding the game in their favor in the 95th minute.
