Bayern Munich went into the break 3-0 up, but then conceded two goals in the 48th and 50th minutes. Is there still something possible? Yes, but not in the way the visitors would have liked. Bayern responded with six goals!
Led by the outstanding four-goal man Harry Kane, a playful FC Bayern began the long road to the 2025 Champions League home final with a festival of goals. In a relaxed and easy 9:2 win against Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb, who were overstretched in all parts of the team for long stretches, the Munich side lived up to their reputation as the starting specialists in Europe's premier class with their 21st successive opening win in the new league system. It was Bayern's highest win in the elite league.
The man of the evening in front of 75,000 spectators in the Allianz Arena was once again Kane. Three days after his treble in the 6-1 win at Kiel, he scored his 50th to 53rd goals in a Bayern shirt (20th/57th/72nd/78th minute). Remarkably, the 31-year-old Englishman scored three times from the spot. Kane is the fourth player after Mario Gomez, Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski to score four goals in one match for FC Bayern in the Champions League.
Despite a brace, the strong performance of Frenchman Michael Olise (38th/61st) paled into insignificance. Raphaël Guerreiro (33) also scored before the break. The brilliant evening of football was rounded off by international Leroy Sané's comeback goal (85'). And then, in stoppage time, Leon Goretzka scored, who didn't have much to cheer about.

The premier class comes in a new guise
How the new Champions League mode works
- 36 teams are part of the new Champions League mode.
- In a so-called league phase, consisting of eight games per team, all 36 clubs are listed in a table.
- The eight matches in the league phase are played against different opponents. The teams are divided into pots beforehand. Each team has to play against two teams per pot.
- The top 8 teams from the league phase advance to the round of 16.
- The remaining places in the round of 16 are awarded in knockout playoffs. A team ranked 9th to 16th will face a team ranked 17th to 24th, with a first and second leg deciding who progresses.
- The losers of the knockout playoffs and clubs ranked 25 to 36 are eliminated from the Champions League. There is no ticket for the Europa League.
- From the round of 16 onwards, the familiar tournament format is used. First and second legs between two teams up to and including the semi-finals. The Champions League winner is crowned in a final match.
