He was the big high-flyer for the Swiss national team at the European Championships: Dan Ndoye. After just one year in Bologna, a move to a top club could now be on the cards.

  • Dan Ndoye was the high-flyer in the Swiss national team at the European Championships.
  • Several top clubs have signaled their interest in the Bologna winger: Inter Milan, Juventus Turin and Manchester United.
  • Jonas Omlin believes that Ndoye has what it takes to make a name for himself at a top club. "I think he will become a very important player for the national team in the future," says the Gladbach goalkeeper.

Dan Ndoye already showed flashes of his potential from time to time during his time at FC Basel. A year ago, however, hardly anyone would have thought it possible that the winger would now be linked with top clubs in England and Italy.

Even before the European Championship, there were rumors that Inter Milan were keeping a close eye on Ndoye after his strong season at Bologna. The 23-year-old really came into the limelight during the tournament in Germany and now the Italian champions are said to be interested, according to Sky. In addition to Inter, Juventus Turin and Manchester United are also said to have Ndoye on their radar.

"He has rightly aroused the interest of these clubs," says Jonas Omlin, who knows Ndoye from the national team, on blue Sport's "Heimspiel bei der Nati". "He didn't play against just any defenders at the European Championships, they were the best. And if you can outplay even them, you can do it in other leagues and teams too. He has what it takes," Omlin is certain. "He came out of nowhere. I think he'll be a very important player for the national team in the future."

"... then he'll be really good and expensive"

Ndoye is also a high-flyer in the national team. In the European Championship qualifiers, he was mostly only used as a wild card. It was only in the test matches before the European Championship that Murat Yakin really started to rely on Ndoye. And that paid off. "He has made the biggest development of all the Nati players. He has stepped out of his shadow," says blue Sport editor-in-chief Andreas Böni.

And he continues: "Xhaka and Akanji were already at the top level, Ndoye could be the next to make a big transfer. If he improves his final pass and increases his scoring quality, he'll be really good and expensive."

Bologna paid 9 million euros to Basel for Ndoye a year ago. Now, the fifth-placed club from the past Serie A season is said to be willing to talk about €25 to €30 million. This would make Ndoye one of the most expensive Swiss players of all time. The record is held by Granit Xhaka with his €45 million move from Gladbach to Arsenal in 2016.
