Spectacle at Kybunpark St. Gallen too big for Lausanne when outnumbered

In the 20th round of the Super League, St. Gallen ended a long run of winlessness in front of a home crowd. The 3:2 win against Lausanne-Sport is the first home win since the end of September.

  • FC St.Gallen plays 60 minutes against Lausanne Sport in superior numbers and wins 3:2.
  • It is FCSG's first home win since September.
  • Lausanne lost another game after five matches without defeat.

FC St. Gallen recently drew five games in a row in front of a home crowd. And against Lausanne-Sport, it did not look for a long time like the long-awaited liberation, even though the eastern Swiss were outnumbered for an hour after Karim Sow's emergency brake.

Only Willem Geubbels put the superior Eastern Swiss side on the road to victory around 20 minutes before the end - with the kind help of Karlo Letica, who allowed the actually harmless header to pass.

Prior to this, St. Gallen had to chase back a goal twice. The visitors shocked coach Enrico Maassen's team at the start of both halves. Kaly Sène scored after five minutes to give them an early lead, while Alvyn Sanches put the St. Gallen backline to the sword four minutes into the second half, by which time they were already short-handed. However, Lukas Görtler and Christian Witzig responded promptly to the setbacks and equalized the score within a short space of time.

Due to a lack of chances, St. Gallen had to tremble for victory against their favorite opponent until the very end. The team from eastern Switzerland have now won seven of their last eight games against the Vaud side. For Ludovic Magnin's team, on the other hand, a run of five games without defeat in the Super League came to an end.

Comments on the game

Man of the match

Lukas Görtler: The FCSG captain went into the game with a slight injury and got his foot in the game twice. He scored the quick 1:1 himself and set up Witzig's 2:2. After being substituted shortly beforehand, he is immediately on hand to congratulate St. Gallen after the winning goal. (Joel Di Ronco, blue Sport commentator)
