The Grasshoppers have signed Benno Schmitz, an experienced Bundesliga player. The 29-year-old defender has signed a contract with the Zurich club until 2027.
Schmitz joins the Swiss record champions on a free transfer from relegated Cologne. The right-back had played for Cologne since 2019 and scored one goal in over 100 appearances. The former U20 international had previously also played for RB Leipzig. In total, Schmitz can look back on 132 games in Germany's top flight.
GC, who started the season with a 2-1 defeat against Lugano, face Luzern at home on Saturday.
