Things are going well again at FC Basel. Reason enough for FCB President David Degen to talk about big goals again on the football talk show "Heimspiel".

No time? blue News summarizes for you

  • David Degen is a guest on the football talk show "Heimspiel".
  • With FC Basel, he is flying high after some tough phases.
  • The club president talks to blue Sport about the goal of "being back on Barfüsserplatz in one to three years", where FCB celebrates its titles, but the goal for the current season remains the same.

David Degen has had a "wonderful" time. The FC Basel president celebrated Christmas with his family and left his tracks in the snow for the first time in twelve years - on skis, and "pretty well" at that.

A few days after his return to the slopes, the FCB president also makes his comeback on blue Sport. In the football talk show "Heimspiel", Degen answers questions again after his last visit in October 2023.

From the basement to the sky

The two appearances are worlds apart. Around 14 months ago, FCB were reeling deep in the basement. At the time, Degen said: "I'm doing everything I can to get the club back on its feet." FCB is now back on its feet. And what's more: the 20-time champions are reaching for the stars.

At the winter break, not only is Degen looking "pretty good" on the skis, but so is his FCB in the national competitions. The Bebbi are in second place in the Super League, one point behind leaders Lugano, and are in the quarter-finals of the Cup. No wonder people in Basel are starting to dream again, dreaming of success and wild championship celebrations on Barfüsserplatz.

"We want to return to the Barfi," Degen makes clear in the latest episode of "Heimspiel". This should happen in the next "one to three years". In other words: FCB wants to lift trophies again. "We want to get back to the top and have to play for titles again."

Degen does not deviate from the season's goal

The FCB president officially switches into attack mode. Pascal Zuberbühler likes that. "Say that more, Dave - for the people, for the fans," says the blue Sport expert to Degen as he talks about title ambitions for the first time. However, Degen does not deviate from his goal for the current season: the championship round, the top six.

The attacking mode is currently being fine-tuned. FCB are preparing meticulously for the second half of the season and will return to action on January 19 - and how: Degen and Co. will travel to leaders Lugano for the top-of-the-table clash.
