7 goals in a nail-biter Dream volley, own goal and double strike - St.Gallen win an insane spectacle

FC St.Gallen leads 4:1 before Lausanne makes the game exciting again with a double strike in the closing stages. But FCSG managed to hold on to the lead - thanks in part to keeper Zigi.

What a game in Lausanne. The home team fought back from 4-1 down against St. Gallen, came close to equalizing but lost 4-3 in the end.

Headers in the 78th and 80th minutes brought Lausanne back into the game, which already seemed to be lost. The Vaud side fought back with all their might in the closing stages to avoid their second defeat in a row, but the eighth goal would not come in a hectic game. Lausanne's lack of points was down to a lack of efficiency. This is also shown by the shot ratio of 21:11.

The game had already got off to a spectacular start: Only 52 seconds had been played when the ball was already in the net. After a corner kick and several headers, the ball landed with defender Isaac Schmidt, who shot directly from the edge of the penalty area and hit the inside of the post for an early lead. Strikers Willem Geubbels (via hand penalty), Chadrac Akolo and Moustapha Cissé scored the next three goals.

St. Gallen have thus recovered well from the false start with the 0:1 against Winterthur. Since then, coach Enrico Maassen's team has celebrated four wins in a row across all competitions, with the offense scoring a brilliant 13 goals. The team from eastern Switzerland will continue their campaign on Wednesday. They will host Slask Wroclaw from Poland in the first leg of their Conference League qualifier.

Man of the Match

Isaac Schmidt: "The full-back scores after 52 seconds with a Sunday shot to take an early lead. He also set up St. Gallen's fourth goal with a wonderful solo run - an impressive performance!" (Joel Di Ronco, commentator blue Sport)

Magnin wants to show a reaction with Lausanne

Lausanne played two different games in the Super League opener. They played strongly against Basel and won 3:2, while the Vaud side went down 4:0 in the Rhone derby against Sion. A reaction to the defeat is needed against St.Gallen.
