Mbappé and Salah miss penalties Liverpool win the clash of the giants and inflict a third defeat on Real Madrid

Liverpool FC remain unblemished in the Champions League. Even defending champions Real Madrid were unable to stop the English side and are in serious danger of reaching the last 16.

Liverpool FC have continued their impressive winning streak in the Champions League and also demystified defending champions Real Madrid. Coach Arne Slot's team defeated the Spaniards 2:0 (0:0) on matchday 5 of the league phase, underlining their current top form. Argentinian world champion Alexis Mac Allister (52) and substitute Cody Gakpo (76) scored the goals.

Both teams also missed a penalty each. Real star Kylian Mbappe missed the equalizer after just over an hour, failing to beat Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. At the other end, Mohamed Salah (70) missed a penalty kick to the left of the goal.

With an unblemished record of five wins, Liverpool remain in command at the top of the table and can slowly but surely plan for the round of 16. Real, on the other hand, are stuck on six points and are in danger of losing sight of direct qualification for the round of 16 as they are four points behind eighth place. Real are currently only in 24th place and would therefore only just be in the intermediate round.
