Narvaez, who had taken over the leader's jersey from Spaniard Javier Romo the day before after his victory in stage 5, had no trouble maintaining his top position in the overall standings during the final 90 km stage with start and finish in Adelaide in the south of Australia.

Narvaez won the six-day tour, which marked the start of the new World Tour season, with a nine-second lead over Romo. Mauro Schmid, the only Swiss participant, finished in 40th place in the final classification.

Narvaez thus made a successful debut with his new employer. The South American had switched from Equipe Ineos Grenadiers to UAE Team Emirates, Tadej Pogacar's team, earlier this year.

Narvaez, who finished the Tour Down Under in second place last year, achieved his most notable successes to date with two stage wins in the Giro d'Italia. Last year, he won the first stage in Turin. He had to cede the leader's position to the eventual overall winner Pogacar the very next day.
