Defending champion Ding Liren took a passive approach in the 4th round of the World Chess Championship in Singapore and was content with a draw against Dommaraju Gukesh from India.

With the white pieces in hand, the Chinese player would have had the chance to create a sharp position and then attempt to play for victory against the challenger. But Ding didn't dare. The defeat on Wednesday was probably still having an effect.

After four of a maximum of 14 games with regular thinking time, the score is 2:2. 18-year-old Indian Gukesh has recovered from the surprising opening defeat with White and currently looks more confident.
