With skill and luck, Tschofenig managed to catch his team colleagues Jan Hörl and Stefan Kraft. After a competition with big differences in wind compensation and a long wait before the final jump of half-time leader Kraft, the 22-year-old from Carinthia achieved his fourth World Cup success. And in the end, he also came out on top in the final ranking for the golden eagle: 1.4 points ahead of Hörl, which corresponds to less than one meter - and this after eight flights. Kraft was 4.1 points behind.

"Indescribable, I can't realize it, but it's definitely wonderful," said Tschofenig in the TV interviews. He had actually seen no chance for himself before the last jump. "I'm just over the moon, unimaginable," said the beaming winner, who felt sorry for Kraft. "It certainly wasn't a good situation for Stefan."

Kraft unlucky with the wind

Kraft, who was leading after the first round, had to wait a long time before the decisive jump due to a wind interruption. "That's very, very bitter. It didn't want to come to me, the golden eagle. I tried everything, but waiting that long is no fun. It wasn't meant to be," said Kraft, who went into the final day as the narrow tour leader.

The decision was not fair, said the three-time world champion and 2015 tour winner, but he is not complaining. "You also need a bit of luck if you want to win the tour." A little later, he even sounded conciliatory: "We'll have a fun evening - but Tschofi will pay for the cigar."

Hörl misses out on victory with landing

Hörl was also initially annoyed in the finish area. "A bitter blow for me," he said, summing up his mood. He showed the longest flights, but lost the tour due to a wobbly landing in the last jump. "That really hurts. It's bitter, but we got one through. We win as a team, that suits us quite well. It hurts, but we're happy with Tschofi."

With a little distance, all Austrians will have reason to celebrate. The red-white-red Eagles celebrated triple victories in Oberstdorf, Innsbruck and the final. Only in Garmisch-Partenkirchen did Gregor Deschwanden disturb the picture in second place.
