Swiss alpine snowboarder Dario Caviezel celebrates his third World Cup victory in Bansko. The World Championship silver medallist left the entire competition behind him in the parallel giant slalom in south-west Bulgaria.
Caviezel beat Italy's Gabriel Messner in the final. It was the second podium finish of the season for the 29-year-old from Graubünden after his 2nd place in his home race in Davos shortly before Christmas.
Caviezel already stood at the top of the podium in Bansko two years ago. There was no sign that he would be able to repeat that this year. In the first race on Saturday, he finished 31st in qualifying and clearly missed out on a place in the knockout rounds. On Sunday, he managed the fourth-best run time and then came out on top four times in the rider-versus-rider battle.
In the women's event, Julie Zogg and Caviezel's wife Ladina advanced to the quarter-finals, but were defeated by the eventual finalists. As on the previous day, Germany's Ramona Hofmeister secured victory ahead of Japan's Tsubaki Miki.
