Niklas Hartweg impresses in the first World Cup competition of the year. In Oberhof, he achieved a personal best result in this discipline with 7th place in a sprint dominated by the French.
Hartweg was well recovered from the flu that had prevented him from competing in the races in Le Grand-Bornand in Haute-Savoie in mid-December. The man from Schwyz performed strongly in the cross-country ski run - and surprised himself in the process. In the shooting range, he hit nine of the ten targets, meaning he had to shoot one penalty round. Hartweg's previous best result in the sprint category was 8th place, achieved a year ago in Ruhpolding in Bavaria.
The second best Swiss was Sebastian Stalder. The man from the Zurich Oberland finished 23rd after flawless shooting, followed by Geneva's Jeremy Finello, who had two misses, in 29th place.
The French achieved a triple success. Quentin Fillon Maillet, double Olympic champion in 2022, achieved his first World Cup victory this winter and his 17th overall as an individual athlete. Fabien Claude and Emilien Jacquelin completed the podium.
