Francesco Bagnaia is the big winner in the sprint of the Indonesian Grand Prix. With his fifth win of the season in this format, he can halve the gap to world championship leader Jorge Martin.

Everything went right for Ducati rider Bagnaia on the Mandalika Street Circuit on the island of Lombok. The world champion of the past two years saved a tenth of a second ahead of his compatriot and brand colleague Enea Bastianini after taking the lead early on due to Martin's mishap.

Marc Marquez secured third place after a race to catch up. The Spaniard, also riding a Ducati, had only started the stage from 12th on the grid.

Bagnaia was able to reduce his deficit in the overall world championship standings by 12 to 12 points because leader Jorge Martin came away empty-handed. The Spaniard, who started from pole position, fell out of the points at the end of the first lap. He crashed while leading the race. Although Martin continued his ride on the Ducati, he was unable to finish higher than 10th. In the sprint races, only the top nine are rewarded with points.
