Baseball player Juan Soto signs a record contract in the North American baseball league MLB.
According to media reports, the 26-year-old outfielder has signed a 15-year contract with the New York Mets for at least 765 million dollars (around 673 million Swiss francs).
Both the length of the contract and the salary volume are records for Major League Baseball. The Dominican previously played for the New York Yankees, who lost out in the contract poker surrounding the star player, who was "freely" available on the transfer market.
In terms of annual salary, Soto is not number 1: Japanese player Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who won the World Series this year, signed a contract worth 700 million dollars over ten seasons a year ago. Football star Cristiano Ronaldo earns 215 million dollars a year with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia alone, according to media reports.
