No Swiss evening in the NHL: Roman Josi (with Nashville) and Philipp Kurashev (with Chicago) suffer defeats. But Alexander Ovechkin proves to be on a great run.
The Nashville Predators with captain Roman Josi continue to struggle this season. The league's weakest team in terms of points conceded their ninth defeat in their 13th game with a 2-3 loss in Washington.
Although the visitors took the lead in the first period and were able to draw level again at 2-2 in the second, superstar Alexander Ovechkin secured victory for the Capitals with his sixth goal in his fifth consecutive game with just under ten minutes remaining. The 39-year-old forward is now just 34 goals short of catching up with record-holder Wayne Gretzky (894 goals) in the NHL's all-time scoring list.
The Chicago Blackhawks with Philipp Kurashev were beaten 1:4 by the Detroit Red Wings. It was the six-time Stanley Cup winners' fourth defeat in their fifth home game of the season. Like Josi, Kurashev remained without a goal.
Meanwhile, Akira Schmid is still waiting for his first NHL appearance after the summer break. The 24-year-old Emmental native, who started the season in the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights, once again took a seat on the bench as the backup goalie in the Vegas Golden Knights' 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Schmid could get his chance on Saturday night in the away game in Seattle.
