The Winnipeg Jets set a record in the NHL with their 14th win in 15 games. The team with Nino Niederreiter wins 4:1 at home against the Dallas Stars.

14 wins in the first 15 games of a regular season - no team in the world's best league had managed that before the Jets. Winnipeg shared the previous record with the Ottawa Senators. The team from Canada's capital won 13 of their first 14 games 17 years ago.

Since the 4-6 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the end of October, which ended an eight-game winning streak, the Jets have now won six games in a row - equaling another record. Only the Colorado Avalanche eleven years ago had managed six wins in a row (minimum) twice in the first 15 games of a season.

The Jets set the course for their latest success early on. After just over seven minutes in the second period, they were already 4-0 up. The Dane Nikolaj Ehlers, the son of Visp coach Heinz Ehlers, completed his team's scoring that evening with his ninth goal of the season. Niederreiter remained scoreless.

Nashville wins again

The Nashville Predators enjoyed one of their rare successes so far this season. With a 4-0 win at home against the Utah Hockey Club, the team with captain Roman Josi put a stop to the latest unpleasant run of three defeats. The Bern native assisted on the first two goals on the power play by Sweden's Filip Forsberg and Canada's Jonathan Marchessault in the first period.

The New Jersey Devils with Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler won the neighboring duel against the New York Islanders 4:3 after overtime. The Islanders had won the first match-up in the current championship two weeks ago by the same score.

For a long time, it looked like the Devils would lose again. Four and a half minutes before the end of regulation time, they were trailing 1:3. The Canadian Dawson Mercer scored the tying goal on a feed from Siegenthaler, and the American Stefan Noesen equalized 50 seconds before the final buzzer. Mercer's compatriot Jack Hughes made sure of the decision after two-and-a-half minutes of overtime and secured the third win in a row.

The Los Angeles Kings were also among the winners of the evening. The team with Kevin Fiala inflicted their fourth defeat in a row on the Columbus Blue Jackets with a 5:2 win. By contrast, Pius Suter and the Vancouver Canucks were beaten 3:7 by the Edmonton Oilers in front of their home crowd. The Zurich native's fifth goal of the season was merely cosmetic. He scored shortly before the end on the power play.
