In future, the Zurich police are to be allowed to investigate closed chats and forums. The aim is to detect and prevent imminent terrorist attacks and other serious crimes in good time.

The exchange of data across cantonal borders should also make it easier to fight crime, as the Zurich cantonal government announced on Thursday.

In view of the rising crime rate and uninterrupted population growth, the cantonal government not only wants to revise the police law, but also gradually increase the target number of cantonal police officers by 108 to 2,425 by 2027.
