It's finally warm in summer. If you don't want to sit at your desk in the office with unpleasant sweat stains, opt for airy clothes and open shoes. But is that appropriate? An expert gives her opinion.

No time? blue News summarizes for you

  • In our free time, we prefer to wear shorts and flip-flops on summer days when it's really warm.
  • But according to one stylist, these things have no place in the office.
  • Hot pants, belly-baring outfits and flip-flops are absolute no-goes. Likewise Birkenstocks, leopard print or neon colors.

When it's warm outside in summer, we unpack shorts, dresses and open shoes. But does our breezy wardrobe also cut a good figure in the office? It's a question that is of burning interest in society every year.

Ana Haldimann, personal shopper and styling coach, tells blue News quite clearly: "Hot pants, belly-baring outfits and flip-flops are absolute no-gos in the office."

A golden rule for the stylist is that anything that exudes a vacation mood does not belong in the workplace. "If you turn up at the office in your Tom Selleck magnum shirt with palm trees combined with shorts and flip-flops, it might look exciting, but the boss might wonder whether he should provide you with a deckchair."

Above all, it is important to have clear rules from the office about what is allowed and what is not. "Bosses should tell employees what they expect from them - depending on the industry - so that their outfits are appropriate for customers," recommends Haldimann.

Every pattern has an unspoken message, every color makes a statement and every outfit creates a certain aura. "The message you send with your outfit is always important. It's best for the team if managers don't allow extremes."

No-go no. 1: flip-flops, Birkenstocks, Crocs

"If the pedicure isn't done, I think Adilettes with socks are far better than without," says Haldimann with a grin. As a boss, telling someone that they don't have nice feet is more difficult than banning open shoes in general.

The stylist also thinks Birkenstocks are out of place. "They just look more at home and cozy. If someone has foot problems, sure, but if you're otherwise shuffling to customers in them, it doesn't make a good impression."

The personal shopper goes on to explain that it's also a question of material when it comes to the shoes that are frowned upon above: "Plastic flip-flops just aren't chic, but open sandals made of leather make a much better impression."

No-go no. 2: hot pants

According to the old school, it's clear that men have to wear long pants if they want to look decent in the office. "But women are allowed to wear dresses - is that really fair?"

According to Haldimann, mini-supers or hot pants have no place on women either. Showing too much cleavage is also inappropriate for the office.

No-go no. 3: leopard print and neon colors

A lot of people would find leopard print unpleasant, and neon colors are also provocative in the eyes of many. "Anything loud is intrusive when you're together - unless it's at a party," explains the expert.

Which colors are recommended for the office: Blue or green in all shades. "Pastel shades generally have a pleasant effect in the working environment."

No-go no. 4: see-through fabrics

Haldimann also thinks it's really bad when light-colored clothing is worn in summer and all the underpants show through. The stylist notes: "Usually a faux pas for women: the fact that the panties show through the transparent, white dress - you should definitely pay attention to this when getting dressed in the morning and wear skin-colored underwear."

No-go no. 5: Sweat stains

Although it is completely natural and cannot be avoided, it is unattractive if you sweat and stains appear on your shirt or shirt. "For men, I advise avoiding light blue or pink shirts, as you can see sweat stains immediately."

If you don't want to spread all your perspiration around the office, you should opt for more fabric. The expert advises: "The more skin you show, the more you smell. If you sweat in the office, the fabrics also protect you a little from everyone smelling you."

That's why: "If you're more dressed, you're simply more considerate of your work colleagues."
