Thousands of flights were canceled nationwide due to the winter weather - up to 20 centimetres of snow also fell in the US capital Washington and the surrounding region. The majority of flights at the capital's Reagan National Airport were canceled. According to the weather service, the heavy snowfall is now set to end - but sub-zero temperatures are expected to continue in the coming days.
