The canton of Valais lifted the flood warning for the Rhone and its tributaries on Sunday. The levels have stabilized, according to the cantonal management body (KFO).

According to the management body, the flood waters have already begun to recede in the tributaries.

No major damage was caused in the canton of Valais and the neighboring canton of Vaud during the renewed rainfall in the night from Saturday to Sunday, according to the management body in response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency.

However, the successive floods of recent weeks have weakened the banks of the tributaries and the dams of the Rhone. The KFO therefore recommends remaining cautious over the next few days and staying away from riverbeds. As the ground is still saturated with water, debris flows and localized landslides could also occur.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, several new debris flows occurred in the upper Val de Bagnes. Access to the village of Lourtier was still blocked on Sunday lunchtime.
