An officer and a female officer were "seriously injured" "during a routine security patrol" at the perimeter fence of police section 12.

"According to initial investigations, a previously unknown object detonated, causing the colleague to suffer serious injuries to his face and eye", the statement said. His colleague suffered blast trauma. Both are currently receiving medical treatment. The criminal investigation department took over the investigation and the crime scene is currently being examined.

A police spokesperson did not provide any further details about the incident when asked. He was unable to answer the question of whether the detonation was caused by a firework or something else, he said when asked.
