The Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) stated that from January 2025, managers in sales and marketing will also be subject to registration. This will affect around 45,000 employees. Service assistants in restaurants will also have to register again, according to the press release. That is around 33,500 gainfully employed persons.
The reason for more occupational fields requiring registration is the increase in the average unemployment rate by 0.3 percentage points, said a EAER spokesperson on request. In the reference period for determining the types of occupations subject to registration for the current year, the unemployment rate was 2.0 percent, and 2.3 percent for the coming year.
Employers must report vacancies to the regional employment agency (RAV) if the unemployment rate for the type of occupation is above five percent. According to the press release, service assistants were already subject to the reporting requirement in 2022 and 2023, but no longer in 2024 with an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent. Now the threshold has been exceeded again at 5.1 percent.
All occupations that are subject to registration this year will remain so in 2025. According to the Confederation, the occupation with the highest number of employees subject to registration next year will be construction workers, with almost 90,000 employees.
The EAER updates the list of reportable occupations in the fourth quarter of each year. This is valid for the period from January 1 to December 31 of the following year.
