At an extraordinary meeting on Saturday, the Zurich municipal council tackled its large pile of pending business: It dealt with all 19 proposals on the agenda in just under four hours.

Council President Guy Krayenbühl (GLP) noted at the end of the additional meeting that the municipal council had thus been able to deal with eight percent of the items on the long agenda.

To achieve this, Krayenbühl had announced the planned timetable at the start of the meeting: The applicable maximum speaking times were additionally reduced, with an average of twelve minutes available per agenda item. "If we don't manage this, we will hold another council meeting on a Saturday towards the end of December."

The municipal council then made rapid progress: among other things, it dealt with a motion to promote dance and theater institutions, discussed CO2 emissions at Zurich Airport and demanded that school gardens be built as standard when constructing new school buildings.

In the end, the municipal council needed an average of 11.9 minutes per item of business. Council President Krayenbühl drew a positive balance: he personally assessed the discussions as "substantive" and the speakers got to the point quickly. "It was exciting to listen to you." The next meeting will take place - as usual - on Wednesday evening at 5.00 pm.
