The Zurich City Police will no longer operate regional and neighborhood police stations. Instead of 13 stations, there will be three bases, one location on Langstrasse and one main location.

The city police announced on Thursday that the regional stations had lost much of their importance. Today, reports can also be made online. The regional and district police stations would tie up many police officers in office work.

There will now be a main location on Förrlibuckstrasse, close to the criminal investigation department. Three bases are planned at the City regional police station (Urania), on the Albis site in Altstetten and at Airgate in Oerlikon. A location near Langstrasse will also be retained.

The city police hope that centralization will increase efficiency. The police officers could be deployed more on the streets where they are needed.

First closure in September

The plan is to move into the bases in the 2030s. The regional police station in district 5 will be integrated into the district 4 station as early as September. The stations in Unterstrass, Affoltern and Schwamendingen will be integrated into Oerlikon from 2025.

Due to staff shortages, the opening hours of the regional stations have never been an issue. In the fall of 2022, for example, it was no longer possible to issue reports at night at five stations.
