In its new exhibition, the Winkelriedhaus Museum in Stans NW provides an insight into the life of director and theater pioneer Oskar Eberle. He had a decisive influence on the Swiss theater scene in the 20th century.

The traveling exhibition shows how family tragedies, economic hardship and two world wars affected his life and work, as the Nidwalden Museum announced on Tuesday. Eberle's commitment to amateur theater and his production of the fairytale play "Little Else's Path to Happiness" with the Stans Theater Society are also highlighted.

The collaboration with the Stans-based artist Hans von Matt and the joint circle of friends of artistically and academically active Central Swiss intellectuals are also discussed, according to the statement. These included Meinrad Inglin, Fritz Flüeler, Robert Durrer and Armin Meile.

Eberle was born in Zurich in 1902 and died in Altdorf UR in 1956. He gained fame through his staging of the festival on the occasion of the National Exhibition in 1939 and the Federal Celebration in 1941. The exhibition opens on August 21 at 6.30 p.m. and runs until September 15.
