Fire Vacant restaurant goes up in flames in Urnäsch AR

A fire in a vacant restaurant in Urnäsch AR caused several hundred thousand francs worth of damage on Friday night.

The report that the Schönau restaurant was on fire was received at 00.46 a.m., according to the Appenzell Ausserrhoden cantonal police on Friday. The Urnäsch fire department and the fire departments from Waldstatt and Herisau, who were also called out, then brought the fire under control. According to the statement, they were able to "prevent even worse".

Around 100 people from the fire department, rescue service, insurance company and police were deployed. The cause of the fire is unclear. The forensic service and the fire investigation department of the Appenzell Ausserrhoden cantonal police have begun their investigations.
