Various measures on the expenditure and revenue side could reduce the burden on the Uri state budget by up to CHF 25 million a year. This is shown in a report that the cantonal government submitted to the cantonal parliament on Friday.

According to the report, the budget could be relieved by CHF 2.8 million in 2025. The amount could be increased annually until it reaches CHF 25.4 million in 2030. In the years 2025 to 2030, Uri could thus save a total of 88.5 million francs.

The package includes several measures. For example, selected expense items or service contracts are to be reviewed in order to reduce costs or at least limit cost growth. Additional revenue is also proposed, for example from road traffic tax or debt charges.

The measures are now to be examined by individual project teams so that the Government Council can decide on them at the end of 2024 or in 2025. The Government Council's report was triggered by the postulate of the CVP-die Mitte parliamentary group "Towards a sustainable financial budget from 2024".
