The University of Freiburg has founded a Center for Food Sciences. The five faculties are pooling their knowledge in the center, as the university announced on Tuesday.

The FRIC (Food Research and Innovation Center) will be inaugurated on October 2. Thanks to a strong food industry and its agricultural tradition, the canton of Fribourg is the ideal place to conduct research in this area, said Rector Katharina Fromm on Tuesday.

The center will take an interdisciplinary approach to the production and processing of food, marketing, consumption and the influence of nutrition on physical and mental health. In addition to natural sciences and medicine, psychology, law, communication, marketing and ethics will also be involved, the university added.

The FRIC is also aiming to be recognized as a national research focus.
